NZ Ski Centre Supports All blacks With Special Skis

A New Zealand ski area has come up with the idea of renting special All Blacks themed skis to show support for the All Blacks during the current Rugby World Cup.

Queenstown's Coronet Peak has created the special all black skis, complete with the distinctive Silver Fern at their tip, and will be renting them out for skiers who want to show their support and perhaps take a few selfies this weekend – the last of their 2015 season.

Ski 4 Cancer’s Everest Challenge

A UK ski charity is offering the chance for skiers to be part of a new world record attempt on the slopes next winter, and raise money to fight cancer in the process.

Ski 4 Cancer's 'Everest Challenge' will see participants 'descend the height of Mount Everest (29,029ft) as one large group' on the slopes of Austria's new largest ski area, Saalbach, on Friday 11 March 2016.

Kronplatz Big Spender

Italy's Kronplatz ski area has announced yet another big summer spend on upgrades for the ski season. The latest in a long line of investments which has transformed the ski region, part of the Dolomiti Superski, in to one of the most technically advanced on the planet at present.

Heavy Snow Across The Alps

A band of heavy snowfall has been moving across the Alps bringing fresh cover to resorts already open for the 2015-16 ski season and inspiring views for those opening over the next three months.

Austrian ski areas, and particularly the Tirol, have fared particularly well from the fresh snow with Solden, which opened for the season 10 days ago, issuing a 'powder alarm' for more than a foot of snow on its glacier in the past 24 hours – a total of 37cm reported.

Enter Competition Now To Jump With Eddie The Eagle

A cancer charity operating in conjunction with a ski holiday company is running a contest to win the chance to learn to ski jump with Eddie The Eagle.

Unlike many competitions this is a serious prize, with the winner spending a week using the artificial surface Olympic ski jump facility in Courchevel in October, then coming back for a further week in January to jump on snow – with the aim of ultimately tackling one of the bigger jumps.

Fresh Snow, Sunsets and Southern Lights in NZ

New Zealand's ski areas have celebrated the start of autumn with still more snow along with spectacular natural phenomena.

The country is celebrating one of its best seasons in memory and several resorts have now extended their opening period in to the latter half of October because the snow is still deep, and still falling.

Pumping Snow: Le Snow Factory in Val d'Isere

Le Snow Factory in Val d'Isere, located in a giant hangar beside the Olympique gondola, is the largest snowmaking facility in Europe and cost €3 million to build.

It was developed by a team of engineers in Val d'Isère – with only the cannon nozzles coming from Canada.

Six Stats about Courchevel

We all like a list. Here's a mini list with six facts about Courchevel:

1. The Courchevel area has 588 snowmakers distributed over more than 60 % of the area.

2. 1800 rounds of Beaufort cheese are produced thanks to milk from the cows grazing on Courchevel's alpine pastures in the summer. The cows make a major contribution to keeping the slopes in perfect condition.

Train V Plane To The Alps Cost Comparison Published

The team behind an independent website promoting rail travel to ski resorts has put together figures showing, they say, that it can be significantly cheaper to go on a skiing holiday by rail, rather than flying.

"While train travel might be more comfortable, relaxing and environmentally friendly, it is often assumed to be far more expensive than flying," said Daniel Elkan of SnowCarbon.co.uk , "However our research has revealed that in many cases the opposite is true – with train travel giving significant savings over flying."

£99 Fares To the USA

WOW air is offering tickets from £99 including taxes to Boston this winter. Flights from Gatwick travel via Reykjavik in Iceland, to the gateway airport for ski areas in New England.

The fares are available on selected dates between 1 October and 15 December 2015 and from 10 January to 10 March 2016. But if you need more than hand luggage for your ski kit - there will be a baggage fee on top.

Expanded Saalbach Ski Area will be Austria’s Largest

The newly merged Fieberbrunn and Saalbach ski areas will become Austria's largest this winter, overtaking the Skiwelt, according to an independent study.

The size of the newly merged area, due to open following a €47m spend on the new "Vierstadlalm-piste" and a 10 person gondola, dubbed "TirolS", and other improvements, has been verified under a new digital mapping 'Seal of Approval' for ski areas launched by German company Montenius Consult.

New Zealand Ski Areas Break Snowfall Records and Extend Season

Coronet Peak, a ski area near Queenstown in New Zealand, announced earlier today that it has broken it's all time snowfall record – with a month of the ski season still to go.

In a separate move Mt Ruapehu, another New Zealand ski resort, had announced a two week extension to its 2015 ski season, to October 26th. The resort is generally the last top remain open in the southern hemisphere and often ends up opening in to 'Snowvember.'

Chill Factore To Host European And British Indoor Moguls Championships This September

This September Chill Factore will host the FIS (International Ski Federation) European Indoor Mogul Championships and British Mogul Championships for the second year in a row, organised by National Governing Body Snowsport England.

Glacier Opening Early This Weekend After fresh Snow

Fresh snow over the past few days in the Alps, Scandinavia and North America has got pulse rates racing among skiers tracking resort's pre-season snow posts. To add to the excitement the Co-op has got its first mince pies of the season on sale.

Solden in the Austrian Tirol has announced it will be open several weeks ahead of schedule, this weekend, thanks to the fresh snow there.

Scottish Ski Centres Release all Areas Season Pass

Scotland's five northern ski centres have released a limited number of 'All Area' ski season tickets valid for use on any day that CairnGorm Mountain, Glencoe Mountain, Glenshee Ski Centre, Nevis Range or The Lecht are open.

Pass holders can choose which of the five centres to go to on any one day, perhaps taking in to consideration snow conditions and weather forecasts then go straight to the lifts, bypassing any ticket office queue.
