No Sign of Brexit Fears in Early 2016-17 Booking Levels

Companies that are reporting 2016-7 ski holiday sales so far are largely reporting business up, despite the 'possible Brexit uncertainty.'

Fresh Powder And 1300m of Skiable Vertical in the Alps

With Cervinia and Engelberg closing for the season at the weekend and no ski areas open at all in France you can now count the number of ski areas open in Europe on the fingers of two hands, but whether the lifts are running or not winter is continuing in the mountains and May has proven a much snowier month than December was in the Alps.

20cm Of Fresh Snow For Engelberg’s Final Weekend of 15-16

There seems to be no end in sight to the wintry conditions in the Alps and Western North America and social media is full of pictures and images from ski resorts showing mid-winter conditions.

In most cases the ski areas have been closed for at least a month and in some it is beginning to cause issues with opening summer sports operations.

Snow in New Zealand Ends 'Mild May'

Snow has been reported across New Zealand's mountains overnight with resorts on north and South islands posting pictures of fresh snow cover.

Equally important for most, temperatures have dropped well below zero allowing the snowmaking guns to fire up.

It May Now Be Legal To Take Children Out of School to go Skiing

The High Court has ruled in favour of a parent who argued that he was not breaking any law in taking his six year old daughter out of school.

Their decision appears to set a legal precedent over turning the then LibDem/Conservative party coalition introduction of fines three years ago for parents who took children out of school in England and Wales except in 'Exceptional Circumstances.' However it is not yet clear if the government will appeal.

Ski Holiday in Iran Next Season?

A British tour operator is claiming to be the first to offer ski holidays to Iran following the end of the UN embargo.

Iran has a long history as a skiing destination and saw modern ski resorts developed in the 1960s and '70s prior to the 1979 revolution, the sport's popularity driven by the former Shah who was a keen skier.

THE FRENCH SLEEPER TRAINS ARE UNDER THREAT OF THE AXE

CAN TWO TEDDY BEARS THAT SKI, SAVE THEM?

For years, skiers have been able to dream of snow while actually travelling to it, on sleeper trains bound for the Alps. With overnight each way, they could get two extra days' skiing on their holiday.

The 2016 Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show Back at Battersea

The 2016 Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show Park will return for its second year at the Battersea Evolution exhibition centre within Battersea park this autumn.

Although sticking to its new venue, the show is moving back to its late October date from its early November one last year, meaning it will be staged in the English school holidays just before Halloween from the 27th – 30th October, 2016.

A Foot Of Fresh May Snow in California

Mt Rose, which closes for the season today, has reported 33cm (13 inches) of fresh snow has fallen for its final weekend of this season (pictured above yesterday).

Indeed even though it's approaching mid-May the snow is still falling on mountains across Western North America with no real sign of an end to the cold snowy weather in the coming week.

“Misguided” French Court Verdict in SCGB Case

The Ski Club of Great Britain's (SCGB's) Chief Executive Frank McCusker has branded a French appeal court decision in favour of the Ecole de Ski Français (ESF) and against the Ski Club as, "misguided and inappropriate."

"This is the outcome we expected but we still believe it to be misguided and inappropriate. We will continue our fight and we will be launching a further appeal in the French Criminal Supreme Court in Paris," said Mr McCusker who was commenting after Ski Club of Great Britain leader Ken Piddlesden was unsuccessful in turning around the original court's decision at an initial appeal hearing in Chambéry.

More Than 1000 Kids Take Part in Inaugural Schools Ski Week

An initiative to get more school children to try out snowsports has been hailed a success by organisers Snowsport England, who have already announced it will be back in 2017.

The new National Schools Snowsport Week, which ended last week and had won sponsorship from Visit Andorra saw just under 150 schools taking part at 21 ski slopes across England – including indoor snow centres and dry slopes.
