A key part of the Skiverbund Amadé, linked to Flachau at one side and St Johann im Pongau on the other. A lovely, medium-sized village (population 3200) with all conveniences.

The one kilometre (two thirds of a mile) long Mulde (Number 24 ) run is the toughest in the region.


The Austrian ski resort of Wagrain is in the Austrian Alps at an altitude of 2,789ft, with 217 miles of marked runs.

Wagrain is part of the Salzburger Sportwelt ski area with access to 472 miles of downhill skiing, with 144 marked pistes, served by a total of 270 ski lifts. In addition to the skiing in Wagrain itself (217 miles of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Salzburger Sportwelt ski resorts of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Filzmoos, Flachau, Goldegg, Kleinarl, Radstadt and St. Johann-Alpendorf.

With ski lifts as high as 6,627ft, snow cover is generally reliable.


Wagrain offers good sking, particularly, for Intermediate and Beginner skiers.

How to get there

 By Air

The nearest airport to Wagrain is Salzburg, 56 minutes drive away.

Klagenfurt, Ljubljana, Munich, Linz, Graz, Innsbruck Airport and Trieste airports are all within three hours drive.

Salzburg is just one hours drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.

The 100 ski lifts are able to uplift 22,977 skiers and snowboarders every hour.

Snow Making

Snow-making is available, on 112 miles of ski runs, with 130 snow cannons.

Season Dates

When is Wagrain open?

We don't currently have confirmed season dates, but hope to soon.

Usual opening is early December, and usual closing is Mid April.

NOTE:- Ski area, lift and piste opening is subject to Current Snow Conditions.

We don't yet have specific details of the COVID-19 precautions being taken in Wagrain, but they are likely to include most of the following :-

  • Face masks required on lifts, and in shops.
  • Social distancing in public areas.
  • Reduced lift capacity.
  • Extensive disinfection / sanitization.
