Melanoma Fund announce partnership with Solex SPF30 – a new sunscreen

Published : 22-Jan-2025 09:29

The Melanoma Fund, a UK charity dedicated to providing sun safety guidance for outdoor sports lovers, has announced a partnership with Solex SPF30 – a new sunscreen.

Michelle Baker, the charity's CEO, said:
"It's easy to underestimate the importance of skin protection on snow. You only have to look at the weathered faces of older ski instructors to see the effects of intensified UV exposure - not to mention the increased risk of skin cancers.

Eliminating excuses around sunscreen application is key, which is why we're proud to collaborate with Solex."

Designed with outdoor enthusiasts in mind, Solex SPF30 features an innovative applicator that delivers quick, mess-free, and even coverage to all exposed areas.

The idea is to avoid sticky hands and smeared goggles. There's also a mirror on the cap for easy application and a handy strap to ensure it doesn't get lost.

The Melanoma Fund is keen to stress that if you care about your skin's health and appearance, sunscreen is a must-have for every trip to the slopes.

At high altitudes, UV radiation increases by up to 40%, even on overcast days. Combine that with snow's reflective surface, and you're practically bathing in UV from every angle.

Without proper protection, your skin faces an increased risk of sun damage, premature aging, and even skin cancer.

The charity works closely with many sports leading governing bodies and is the UK's leading provider of sun protection resources.

5 Essential Sun Safety Tips

1. Start with a solid base layer: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) before heading out. Don't forget spots like your ears, under your chin, your neck, and around your nose.

2. Stick to the reapply rule: Reapply sunscreen every few hours or whenever you stop for a break. Staying protected all day requires diligence, not just a morning coat of SPF.

3. Shield your eyes and lips: Invest in high-quality UV-blocking goggles or sunglasses, and don't forget to use a high factor lip balm to prevent chapped, sunburned lips and noses.

4. Cover up wisely: Helmets protect your scalp and ears from UV rays, and balaclavas can further reduce sun exposure. If you're skiing in spring or shedding layers during lunch, consider wearing base layers with built-in UV protection.

5. Bluebird days: When switching from goggles to glasses, from jackets to T-shirts to cool down, protected newly exposed skin, which is prone to burning.
