Oregon Ski Resort Re-opens For 4th of July Festivities

Mt Bachelor ski area in Oregon has re-opened for snowsports for just three days, over the American Independence Day holiday period.
The centre decided it had had so much snow last winter it was able to re-open several intermediate-level runs at the top of its ski area, served by the Summit Express quad.
It has even created a special piste map to illustrate what is open.
Temperatures have been around 5 degrees overnight but rising towards 20C at lunchtime so access lifts have been opening early from 7.30am.
There were however some grumbles on Mt Bachelor's social media channels about ticket office queues an hour long due to the popularity of the initiative and it not being possible to pre-purchase tickets online.
Mt Bachelor joins four other ski areas in the USA, and the glacier skiing at Whistler Blackcomb, which are open for snowsports on the US Independence Day holiday today.
Mammoth and Squaw Valley in California are also open in July this year thanks to the abundant snowfall they enjoyed last winter with the snow lying metres deep at both. Additionally Copper Mountain has its regular summer snowsports camp area, as does the Timberline snow field on MT Hood in Oregon.
