Double Gondola Delight For Montgenèvre
Double Gondola Delight For Montgenèvre

Montgenèvre, which sits on the Italian border and is part of the huge Milky Way circuit, has confirmed a major lift upgrade for winter 2026–2027. It has announced that the long‑serving Chalvet double chairlift, which dates back to 1985, will be replaced by two modern installations designed to deliver faster, more comfortable access from the village to the top of the Chalvet sector.
The project marks a significant step in the resort's ongoing modernisation programme. The existing double chair, one of the oldest lifts in the area, has long been a bottleneck during peak periods and offers limited comfort compared with contemporary systems.
The plan involves installing new lifts on two separate routes to better distribute traffic and dramatically increase capacity. Resort officials say the two new lifts, both 10 seater gondolas, will create a smoother, more efficient flow of skiers from the base area, reducing queues and improving connections across the wider Montgenèvre–Vialattea (Milky Way) ski domain.
Both lifts will feature modern cabins with improved seating, weather protection and faster travel speeds, cutting journey times to the Chalvet ridge. The upgrade is expected to enhance access to key pistes on the sector, including popular routes for intermediates and links toward neighbouring Italian terrain.
