Record numbers of skiers for US resorts in 2021-22

Record numbers of skiers for US resorts in 2021-22

Published : 19-May-2022 06:26

The NSAA (National Ski Areas Association) has reported record numbers for the 2021-2022 season.

Attendances were 3.5% compared to the previous season with 61 million skier-days counted in 473 ski resorts, this was despite the fact that snowfall was less than the ten year average.

According to the NSAA, these good results were due to "the strong sales of season tickets and a continuous desire for outdoor recreation: the pandemic pushed more people to search for outdoor activities."

The number of ski resorts went up from 462 to 473. Investments by ski resorts in new lifts should also reach a record level of US$728 million for winter 2022-23.

The Rockies did best of all regions with 25.2 million skier days, a new record. On the other hand, the regions in the south-east and of the Pacific Northwest reported a decrease in numbers compared to 2020-2021.
